The power of Creative Brand Design

A strong brand design is proven to deliver results for businesses. There are a lot of brands out there - many logos, colours and font choices that businesses have been sold by Graphic Designers or self created with help from Google images.

Sadly just having a brand isn't enough. A logo and colour choice may not inform customers of just what your business is about and who you are. It's not likely to help you stand out from the crowd (in a positive way) so is just a 'look'.

Those are important things. Not every brand is a good one.

Investing in having the right design agency create your brand professionally can soon pay for itself with increased sales and awareness. We're not talking about the "we'll create your brand from £75" kind of design agencies - your business success is worth more than that.

Your graphic design agency of choice should be one with a portfolio of creative work that can demonstrate how experienced 'design thinking' has been applied visually rather than just offering you a selection of logo designs.

For us here at Laban Brown Design, we don't develop design solutions that are based on what's fashionable, on-trend or style driven. Our work involves getting under the skin of your business and developing a brand that positions you firmly in your marketplace and ahead of your competition.

O'Nano Toothbrush Branding
As an example of this we recently developed a brand design for an innovative toothbrush manufacturer. O'Nano use nano-technology to create a unique brush head that has many benefits over traditional toothbrushes. Our challenge was to create a brand and retail brand packaging for the introduction of the products into the UK (they are already a big player in the US and Asia markets).

Our solution took the brand design to new levels - across retail packaging design, exhibition display design, a website design and into stores. We provided seamless integration of the visual style and ethos across all elements and created a brand that is proving to be delivering results.

How can we help you?
If you are looking to invest both time and money into creating a new brand or updating an existing design that will help make your business a success (or greater success!) then speak with us. It doesn't matter if you are a start-up or established company, your business deserves the right solution and we can help.

Award winning Design Agency Laban Brown Design - Essex Digital Awards 2016

We're a proud bunch. We were delighted enough to be finalists in four categories at the Essex Digital Awards 2016 but then on the awards night we scooped both a Silver and Gold Award!

We struck the perfect balance. A Silver Award for our own Design Agency website and a Gold for our client Monkey Madness Play Centre. These awards prove that whilst we present our own Design Agency brand in a consistent and intelligent way, it's our client work that is our most important focus.

We're excited to be Essex Digital Awards 2016 Finalists!

Laban Brown Design has been in business for a long time now... over 20 years in fact. We always work hard for our clients and it's this hard work that delivers results time and again. It's simply in our DNA.

In the day-to-day running our successful design agency we are often called upon to pitch against other creative agencies as part of the process of securing new projects. We're pretty successful in our pitches and have worked on many wonderful design projects over the years. Whilst winning a pitch is a wonderful thing but to us it's actually the success that our creative work brings our clients that is most rewarding.

This year we thought it would be fun to enter the Essex Digital Awards 2016 with some of the Essex based website and digital design projects that we're very proud of. We love being involved with businesses of all sizes from all around the world but being a design agency based in Essex we felt that our first ever awards entry should be an Essex Business Award.

To our delight we were announced as being finalists in the Essex Digital Awards 2016 in an amazing FOUR categories: 'Small Business Website' (in association with the Essex Employment & Skills Board), 'Website' (in association with Lookers Volvo Colchester) and 'Marketing & Creative' website with all three for our Laban Brown Design website and 'Sports & Entertainment' for our Monkey Madness Play Centre website.

We're very pleased to have made it to the finalists stage and our fingers are crossed that the judges will like our work and we'll have a good result at the Awards event in April. The Laban Brown Design team will be at there and we're certainly looking forward to meeting sponsors and competitors alike.

In the meantime we're busy working on a wide range of new graphic design and website design projects for businesses across the country - three of which are for businesses based in Essex.

If you're looking for a results driven design agency to help with a website or graphic design project then you can find out more about us by visiting us at www.labanbrowndesign.co.uk

Redesign - It's not a dirty word...

As a creative agency Laban Brown Design has been around for quite a while now. Over twenty years in fact. In that time we've learned a thing or two about the need for redesigns.

Redesigns can be required for a number of reasons. Sometimes we're asked to take over the work of another agency and redesign an unsuccessful design solution into something that works. Or we may be asked to redesign a project that we created ourselves long ago when it was designed to communicate in a different way and perhaps on a different platform.

It's hard now to imagine that there was a time when the internet didn't exist and most marketing strategies (known back in the day as a marketing plan of course) consisted mostly of creating a brilliant design that was produced as a printed brochure and often print advertising. Digital delivery is very much part of the route to market now and requires a different approach to design and thus the call for a redesign.

It's not unheard of for us to redesign the same project more than once over a long period of time. We created the original logo identity design for our client Countryside Properties' Skyline 120 commercial business park some 11 years ago and have since redesigned the logo, literature and website three times. Time forces evolution and it's crazy not to revisit a project to make sure that it is delivering the correct information to the right audience in the best possible way.

We're aware that some clients try to avoid revisiting or redesigning a project since they feel they've already invested and would question the need for change. We shouldn't question the success of the original design but how the world has developed since its creation.

The world has become design savvy. We're surrounded by strong visuals everyday - from television to online to packaging design and retail environments. A bad design solution requires a rethinking - it can't be fixed. A good design requires redesigning simply to bring strength in an ever more competitive marketplace.

Consider what would have happened to some of the world's largest businesses and brands if they hadn't evolved and redesigned their identities.

Much as Starbucks loved their original logo design (a first logo is often hard to let go)
evolution and redesign has helped them visually grow up as their business expanded

The step from Apple's original logo design to its redesigned solution was huge but necessary

Shell has been in business for a long time and has seen a number of logo redesigns. It has been very much a process of evolution but it's clear to see how many of the variants wouldn't stand up in today's marketplace

If your business is suffering because your logo design, brochure design, packaging design or website design no longer works or is outdated, then speak with us about how a redesign can ignite sales and help put you ahead of the competition.

New Year, new Laban Brown Design website update

So it's the New Year and with fresh starts in mind we've taken some time to (finally) update our website with some exciting new clients and projects.

We do of course like to keep our website fresh and updated on our Hot Stuff page (take a look, it's full of great design work) but we've added four entirely new clients to our work example portfolio pages.

Just as we would when working on a client's website design, we've planned just which four clients we should use as examples to ensure that we show a wide representation of the graphic design work we create for companies large and small. The four we have chosen compliment the sixteen clients we already show on the website and introduce some really effective examples of our work.

You can go direct to our work landing page by clicking this link, or go to the four client pages individually by clicking on any of the links shown under the images below.

Identity design, brand design, visual styling and integration across a range of marketing tools including literature, website and signage for two play centre locations.

Creation of luxury brand Magazine App for use on mobile devices along with supporting printed brochure.

Corporate identity update, brand design, development and application across marketing materials and customer touchpoints.

Development of a dynamic brand identity that has been applied to all online and offline marketing from product literature and large format displays to packaging design.

Which is best - big design agency or small design agency?

Are big agencies better than smaller creative groups? It depends... of course.

It's something that gets discussed frequently within both our creative circles and also with clients when chatting openly about past experiences and ongoing client/agency requirements.

We have first hand experience having worked in 50+ staff agencies down to five man creative enterprises. These two models are at opposite ends of the creative service offering. Larger agencies will generally employ new business sales people along with account handlers to work between the agency and its client. It's a solid strategy and similar to many other types of business however as any creative person responsible for actually generating ideas or the end creative product will testify, the account handler will be a buffer between themselves and the client.

Chinese whispers can creep in and a whole heap of trouble can result from not being able to get to the core of requirements, timings or expectations. It's a very common problem and one that has been proven to be largely eradicated by having creatives available to clients from initial project briefing to day-to-day questions and discussions. Perhaps it helps that there's no 'selling' being done and a sharper focus on direct delivery by not going via an account handler. Creative designers don't work on commission or have sales targets afterall!

Another key benefit that a smaller creative design agency can deliver is speed. Again from experience, a larger agency simply takes longer to do things. It's a simple fact that the more people involved in developing any creative solution, the longer it takes to get to an end result. It's a numbers game. A bigger agency will need more clients to help pay for the higher overhead and will have generally fewer creatives to deliver ideas and designs.

Amazingly it is shown that a small creative agency of six staff members can employ as many as five creatives whereas a larger agency of ten staff members can employ as little as four creatives.

One of the largest benefits to clients is that of cost saving. Bigger agency = more overhead = larger invoice to the client for work. Smaller agencies are on the whole lean, responsive and cost effective. We certainly are.

Over the past 20 twenty years we've seen many design agencies come and go. More often those closing their doors are larger agencies. This of course isn't good for clients as they suffer sudden breakages in their projects since their agency literally isn't around anymore. All the great ideas and marketing plans created by working together are gone along with any artworks that may need for future creative work. It's genuine nightmare and we've listened to horror stories told to us by clients who have found themselves in that exact situation. There's nothing more frustrating in having to pay someone to re-create a brochure design from scratch as the previous agency has gone bust and taken their artworks and copyrights with them.

These are just a few examples that have been behind our solid foundation strategy to always be a smaller creative agency that not only talks directly, honestly and openly but can deliver the highest levels of quality that our clients will enjoy as part of our long-term relationships.

If you are thinking of working with a design agency then think about going small. It's a very smart place to start.

Laban Brown Design is a creative design agency based in the Essex countryside. We serve clients across the whole UK and internationally.

We have been helping clients position themselves in their marketplaces, raise their profiles and achieve their commercial objectives with effective Corporate Identity design, Brand Identity design, Brochure design, Website and Digital design, Packaging design and design for Print since 1993.

Corporate Identity Design - MINT Construction

Corporate Identity - the icon or symbol that represents a business in one simple form. We created the identity and brand style for innovative Construction company MINT.

The brief called for an identity design that instantly informed of the business ethos of clarity and strength. These attributes where shown visually as a block (four walls), a strong, clean font and the 'i' in the text suggesting a rooftop. Solid black colouring was used to convey a contemporary flavour along with a fresh mint green.

The finished MINT identity and brand style is currently being rolled out across a range of printed elements including Stationery Design and Brochure Design along with new Site Hoarding Designs, Signage Design, Van Livery Design and a Responsive Website Design.

You can view the new site at www.mintcs.co.uk and our new Hoarding Designs are now appearing around London.
